Road maintenance costs at $21.4b per annum

TEHRAN- A deputy director from Iran’s Road Maintenance and Transportation Organization (RMTO) announced in a ceremony on Saturday that maintenance of domestic roads costs 900 trillion rials (about $21.4 billion) per year, IRNA reported.

“Some 600 million tons of goods and one billion passengers are transported via domestic roads each year,” Mohammad Teymouri said.
There are 217,000 kilometers of roads, at the value of two quadrillion rials (about $47 billion), in Iran, the official added.
